Ramaphosa urged to assist ailing productive sector

Economist George Glynos says President Cyril Ramaphosa should ensure that a constructive policy is urgently formulated to assist the country’s productive sector.

Despite an improvement in sentiment and a buoyant commodity price environment, the productive sector which includes mining and manufacturing remains largely neglected.

Glynos says the productive sector is the engine of South Africa’s economy.

“This is the sector that makes so many things sustainable or not. The rand unfortunately does detract a little bit from the rand-related returns that the mining companies for example can be able to put up. But nonetheless, we’re hopeful that there will be something in the way of moderately positive news that comes out of these productive sectors through the week ahead because we really do need a stronger productive sector.”
