Ramaphosa trying to evade accountability in Phala Phala saga: EFF

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has accused President Cyril Ramaphosa, of trying to evade accountability for the theft of thousands of US dollars at his Phala Phala farm – by filing an urgent court interdict, halting the work of parliament impeachment committee.

In his latest application, Ramaphosa seeks to halt the work of the Committee until the court has reviewed Parliament’s Section 89 report, which considered evidence against him.

EFF’s Member of Parliament, Mazwi Blose, says, “There’s nothing urgent about it, and there’s no need to interdict it now, you’re interdicting a report that came out four years ago – why didn’t you interdict it that time. So, it’s really just a process of him running away from accountability and trying to use any trick in the book that is available.”

“We’re going court, we’re going to oppose it and not just only us- because we’ve also written to the speaker, because remember the Section 89- panel report, is not a panel of an individual, it’s a panel that was established by parliament. The speaker is the head of parliament, so the mere fact that Cyril Ramaphosa is taking it to court, means that he’s taking parliament to court – and we expect parliament to go and defend its own report in court.,” adds Blose.
