President Cyril Ramaphosa will arrive in Toronto, Canada on Friday morning for meetings with potential investors and business people before travelling onto Charlevoix, Quebec later Friday to join leaders of the G7 who are gathering for their annual retreat.

President Ramaphosa will participate in the G7 Leaders’ Summit Outreach – a tradition where additional principals from outside the G7, particularly from the developing world, are invited to engage over some of the world’s most pressing concerns.

As part of an overall focus this year on building strong economies and ensuring growth that works for everyone, the leaders will participate in a dedicated session on oceans.

They will examine the role of oceans and maritime resources in supporting local and national economics.

They will discuss ways to address the problem of oceans plastic pollution, build resilient coasts and coastal communities, support sustainable oceans and fisheries, and tackle illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing.

South Africa has recognized the importance of unlocking its oceans economy as part of its developmental mix through Operation Phakisa.
