President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the keynote address at this year’s National Women’s Day commemoration event at the Union Building in Pretoria, on Sunday.
The occasion will mark 70-years since the historic 1956 march to the Union Buildings by thousands of women in protest against carrying passes. This year’s commemoration takes place under the theme “Empowered Women, Empower Nations”.
The day also marks the official start of Women’s month. Formal activities are expected to start at 10am.
Tomorrow the ANC Women’s League will join the commemorative walk marking National Women’s Day and 70 years since the historic 1956 Women’s March, honouring generations of women who fought for freedom, equality and the emancipation of women.
