Ramaphosa slams booing at ANC celebration

Reading Time: < 1 minute

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa has condemned the booing of President Jacob Zuma by members of the public.

Thousands of ANC supporters booed Zuma as he made his way to the stage when images of him appeared on big screens around the Buffalo City Stadium in East London during the ANC’s 106th anniversary celebrations on Saturday.

Ramaphosa has described as unacceptable attempts to humiliate Zuma, saying no leader should be exposed to such conduct.

“President Zuma is a deployee of the ANC – he’s been deployed by the ANC. That is why I said yesterday upon hearing the booing, we need deal with each other with respect… we should never have a situation where we subject any of the deployee of the ANC to humiliation, because by so doing we are saying the ANC is a humiliation. As leaders we are saying our members should desist from booing, insulting and from showing disrespect to the leaders of the African National Congress.”

Note: the Ramaphosa interview on January 8th Statement will be re-broadcast on Channel 404 at 19:00 – Sunday, 14 January.
