Ramaphosa and Sisulu join forces ahead of elective conference

African National Congress presidential hopefuls Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and Lindiwe Sisulu have announced that they will work together ahead of the ANC’s elective conference which starts on Saturday.

In a statement the two say their decision is motivated by the nominations of the ANC branches that indicate that party members want Ramaphosa to be the next ANC president and Sisulu to be his deputy. The announcement is a new development which follows Ramaphosa’s earlier pronouncement favouring ANC National Executive Committee member Naledi Pandor as his deputy, should he ascend to the party’s top job.

Ramaphosa says the ANC has done its best to keep its promises and deliver in the past five years. He however says, there is still room for improvement. Speaking to the SABC ahead of the party’s elective conference which starts tomorrow, Ramaphosa said some matters could have been handled better.

“The ANC has done all in its power and capability very much to deliver. The life expectancy on our country was in the 50 years or so it’s now moved to 64 and now we are on the cusp of introducing the national health insurance. Next year we are going to have the national minimum wage and yet there are areas where we could have done better and other areas where we could have done better and other areas where we have not done so well. So we are not going to kid anyone including ourselves and think that we smelling of all roses.”
