ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa has told scores of Muslims that the voluntarism of the Thuma-Mina concept is second nature within the Muslim community.

Ramaphosa was addressing guests during an Iftar dinner organised by the Muslim Judical Council at Rylands in Cape Town. Iftar is a meal eaten after breaking the fast at sunset during the month of Ramadan.

Among those who attended the Iftar was ANC MP Mandla Mandela, Western Cape High Court Judge Siraj Desai, religious leaders and Minister of Higher Education and Training Naledi Phandor.
“This concept of Send Me – Thuma Mina is widespread in the Muslim community. I have seen it; I have felt it; and I have often touched it, because as I see you the Muslim community at work, advancing the interest of people who are less off, particularly as you think of them so deeply and so completely during Ramadaan. I am always so deeply, deeply impressed,” said Ramaphosa.
