Ramaphosa says the ANC is not desperate to go into coalitions

Reading Time: < 1 minute

African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa says the governing party will not go into coalition at all costs. He was speaking in Soweto at an event to thank their volunteers and those who voted for the ANC.

The ANC’s electoral support has dipped below 50% in the recently concluded local elections.

Political parties are now racing against time to form coalitions in hung councils within 14 days. Ramaphosa says the ANC is not desperate.

Ramaphosa has admitted that the outcome of the 2021 local elections is the worst in 27 years.

This was also compounded by the fact only 46% of potential voters only came out to vote.

Ramaphosa says one of the other reasons is prevalent factionalism that has rocked the ANC recently.
