President Cyril Ramaphosa says he will deal with officials who fail to deliver services for people.

President Cyril Ramaphosa says he will take action, including giving marching orders to officials who are failing to give services to the people.

Ramaphosa was addressing aggrieved community members of Ekuvukeni, near Ladysmith, in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands.

For the past few months the residents of Ekuvukeni near Ladysmith have made this township a no-go area. They blocked roads, burnt infrastructure and shut all schools.

The residents complained that a number of burst sewage pipes had not been fixed or serviced by the local municipality. They also wanted government to supply them with potable water.

Ramaphosa promised to address their grievances speedily, and vowed to crack the whip on underperforming government officials.

“I will send a team to check whether things you are complaining about are attended to or not. As I have said earlier if it happens that nothing  is happening I will definitely take action against those officials not doing their work, this includes removing those people,” says Ramaphosa.

The ANC leader also urged residents not to stop children from attending schools. “Do not to shut down schools … Children must be allowed to go to schools.”

Ramaphosa had earlier visited the Nazareth Baptist Church where he urged congregants to pray for a free and fair election.

The ANC president also had a meeting with representatives from the community.
