‘Ramaphosa must address unemployment’

Thousands of people are expected to converge on the Galeshewe Stadium in Kimberley, Northern Cape, to commemorate Youth Day on Monday.
The stadium will be a hive of activity with Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa expected to deliver the keynote speech as part of the June 16 activities.
Ramaphosa is expected to touch on issues including the high rate of unemployment in the country and service delivery challenges in the province.
The theme for this year’s event is ‘Youth Moving South Africa Forward’.
Some of the young people in Kimberley on Sunday have braved the cold weather as they are busy with rehearsals.
One of them, Patrick Artura, says they are tired of government’s empty promises.
“I want the government to address skills development and to create jobs for young people,” says Artura.
In 2013, the province experienced many service delivery protests.
Itumeleng Legodi says she is disappointed that President Jacob Zuma will not be attending this year’s event.
“I’m disappointed that our President will not be here, because I wanted to see him,” says Legodi.
On Saturday, Presidential spokesperson Mac Maharaj said President Jacob Zuma will still be resting in his homestead in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal.
Meanwhile, dozens of South African Police Members’ (SAPS) vehicles are busy patrolling the stadium as they leave nothing to chance.
This will be the first Youth Day without former president Nelson Mandela.
Well-known artists and DJs, including DJ Clock and Mi Casa, will entertain the crowd after the main event.
