Ramaphosa lauds Kenyatta-Odinga truce

Reading Time: < 1 minute

President Cyril Ramaphosa is pleased that his Kenyan counterpart, Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader, Raila Odinga, have agreed to a unity accord.

He says the pair’s decision to put the country first is a good example of excellent leadership.

The country’s economy had been derailed following a prolonged election period marred by violence and division.

Several people lost their lives, now the sudden truce is getting the thumbs up from the SADC chairperson.

Ramaphosa says: “This is good news. As chair of SADC, I am encouraged to see Africans solving their own problems.”

President Ramaphosa is no stranger to Kenyan politics.

He had been involved in the peace process after the violent 2008 elections but pulled out after Kenyatta had accused him of not being an honest broker.

But it seems like Ramaphosa and Kenyatta have mended their relationship.

The Kenyan President visited South Africa recently and made an appearance at the ANC’s anniversary celebrations in January.
