President Cyril Ramaphosa joined thousands of Maskandi music lovers at the Durban’s Moses Mabhida stadium.

He arrived flanked by the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development and Tourism MEC, Sihle Zikalala, along with the Ethekwini Mayor  Zandile Gumede.

Ramaphosa also wore a bit of traditional attire, like the thousands of fans attending the Gcwalisa Mabhida Maskandi Festival in Durban. Festival-goers arrived in traditional clothes worn by their favourite artists.

Ramaphosa has called on traditional music artists across the country to be proud of their craft.  He says they must work hard to take this genre to European countries and the USA to win Grammy Awards.

“This is my first time listening to Maskandi at the stadium and I like it very much. I am very happy that you have filled the stadium. I wish that next time you can fill up FNB stadium in Gauteng province. I call on all the traditional musicians to take this music to European countries and also win the Grammy Awards in the USA.”
