Equatorial Guinea, a country rich in oil, has strong relations with South Africa.

Ramaphosa was welcomed by Obiang Nguema on arrival at the Palace of the People in Malabo.

In 2018, South Africa and the Republic of Equatorial Guinea marked 25 years since the formalisation of diplomatic relations.

Bilateral cooperation includes health, trade, manufacturing, infrastructure, industrial, as well as education and training.

The President is expected back in the country on Tuesday.
