Ramaphosa expresses condolences to Nene family

President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed his condolences following the death of former diplomat George Nene.

Nene died on Friday at the age of 70 following a short illness.

He worked for the International Relations Department since 1994, until his retirement two years ago.

He served as SA’s ambassador to Nigeria and Switzerland during that period.

Rampahosa says the great diplomat has died at a time when the country is mourning the death of Mama Winnie.

“Ambassador George Nene was the Doyenne of our ambassadors; he was the repository of our international policy. He was a diplomat extraordinary he is one of those ambassadors who as he represented our country in various countries represented South Africa with dignity with honesty and total commitment.”
