President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged traditional leaders to help bring about an agricultural revolution in South Africa.

Ramaphosa was speaking at the opening of the newly-inaugurated House of Traditional Leaders in Cape Town.

This address follows Ramaphosa’s two month long campaign which has seen him visiting and engaging traditional leaders across the country.

The President said that the resolution taken at the African National Congress (ANC)’s 54th National Conference in December for the expropriation of land without compensation provides an opportunity to transform the lives of the people.

“By providing more land to more producers for cultivation, and by providing the necessary support, we are laying the foundation for what I would call an agricultural revolution… we are determined to work with traditional leaders to significantly expand agriculture not only to ensure food security but also to create jobs on a significant scale and increase the value of our exports,” says Ramaphosa.
