President Cyril Ramaphosa has told parliament that he will appoint a Commission of Inquiry into governance at the South African Revenue Service(SARS).

Ramaphosa was delivering his maiden State of The Nation Address in Cape Town.

His address was well-received by MPs and guests as they cheered with approval during his address.

Ramaphosa says vital institutions like SARS need to be free from corruption.

“We will also take steps to stabilize and strengthen vital institutions like the South African Revenue Service.  We must understand that tax morality is dependent on an implicit contract between taxpayers and government that state spending provides value for money and is free from corruption.  At the request of the Minister of Finance, I will shortly appoint a Commission of Inquiry into Tax Administration and Governance of SARS.”
