The Road Accident Fund (RAF) has given R35-million in compensation to more than 900 victims in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.

The preliminary Easter Road Safety report shows that the metro has the fourth highest road fatalities in the country.

Transport Minister, Blade Nzimande visited beneficiaries of the fund and those that have lost their loved ones in road crashes.

He says they are in the process of amending the law to help to minimise road fatalities.

“Sometimes we just talk about accidents and we forget that there are casualties, fatalities unfortunately but also people that are suffering from all sorts of disabilities, like the gentleman Jerome that we just visited today who is being supported by the road accident fund. But he is just one in this area.”
