It is unclear why the journalists were detained in Tanzania

South African Editor’s Forum (Sanef) Chairperson Mahlatse Mahlase has confirmed that journalist Angela Quintal and her colleague Muthoki Mumo have been released after being interrogated by Tanzanian authorities. Speaking on Morning Live, Mahlase said that Quintal and Mumo were released in the early hours of Thursday morning and where taken to their hotel.

The reason for them being detained remains unclear.

Earlier, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation spokesperson Ndivhuwo Mabaya confirmed to SAfm that Quintal and Mumo had been returned to their hotel room around 4 am.
