African National Congress’s (ANC) Secretary General Ace Magashule has called on health organisations to adopt a more preventative approach towards the outbreak of Listeriosis.

Magashule was addressing the media in Johannesburg following a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

Over 180 people have died following the outbreak of listeriosis, after eating ready to eat processed meat, such as polony, russians, sausages and viennas.

He urged all members of the public to remain vigilant.

Magashule says, “NWC noted with great concern a recent outbreak of Listeriosis. We are especially despaired by the high number of fatalities. This has been the largest outbreak in history and must be treated with the urgency and seriousness it deserves and we urge all citizens to remain vigilant and ensure that they follow the guidelines by the health authorities to ensure food safety.”
