Protesting taxi operators in Dutywa in the Eastern Cape have caused traffic congestion along the N2 which runs through the town.

The protesters have managed to block the road with trucks.

The spokesperson for the Transport Department, Unathi Binqose, says law enforcement officers are on the ground trying to deal with the situation.

“The Police services will be deploying public order police to calm and attend to the problem. It is becoming a problem for everyone as transportation is not moving and everything has come to a standstill.”

Polokwane

In March, two taxis and a sedan were set alight at Devenish Street in Polokwane as the dispute over routes continues.

Members of the Mankweng Taxi Association blockaded the R81 towards the Mall of the North.

They allege that the Seshego Taxi Association has been ferrying passengers on that route without a permit.
