Property mogul denies murdering his wife

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Property mogul, Jason Rohde, says he is not a murderer. Rohde is on trial for the murder of his wife, Susan, in the High Court in Cape Town.

She was found hanging in the bathroom of their room at the Spier Wine Farm in Stellenbosch in July 2016.

Following two days on the stand giving his evidence in chief, Rohde, addressed the court with an emotion-filled voice, insisting that he did not kill his late wife.

Rohde says he is only guilty of adultery and that his actions ultimately drove his wife to suicide.

Rohde previously testified that his wife became consumed with the knowledge that he had been unfaithful and that they fought about this just hours before she allegedly hung herself in the bathroom of their room at the Spier Wine Farm.

Rohde says he has been unable to grieve for his wife as he has been fighting to prove his innocence. The state is expected to start its cross examination on Wednesday afternoon.
