Prokid to be laid to rest on Sunday

Hip-hop star Linda “Prokid” Mkhize will be laid to rest on Sunday.

The 37-year-old who has been hailed as one of Soweto’s best and a pioneer in kasi-style hip-hop died last week Wednesday.

The funeral service will be held at University of Johannesburg’s Soweto Campus at 8 am and proceed to West Park cemetery where he will be buried.

Born Linda Mkhize in 1981, ProKid was deemed one of the pioneers of Kasi rap.

A proud boy from Soweto with one of his hit songs paying tribute to the area.

Through his music, he narrated township stories, navigating easily between vernacular and english.

His first album Heads & Tales was released in 2005. He went on to release, DNA, and Dankie San amongst others.

He will be buried at the West Park cemetery at the “Heroes Acre” .
