Ajay Gupta has several summons pending against him regarding income tax raids that were conducted on the Gupta properties in India.

Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba says investigations on the Guptas are still on track. This comes as SABC News learnt from a reliable source that Ajay Gupta is currently in India.

The purpose of his visit is, however still not known.

Ajay has several summons pending against him regarding income tax raids that were conducted on the Gupta properties in India.

It is unclear at this stage if Gupta will respond to the outstanding summons against him.

Gigaba says law enforcement agencies are working to bring the Guptas back to South Africa to answer to allegations against them.

He says, “We are working with the Hawks, the police and the prosecutors, the NDPP, in order to bring them back to the country to face their charges. I have met with the minister of police and justice minister to discuss the issue of their documentation and ensure that we can bring them back to the country…”

“Both ministers made it very clear that we must not tamper with the investigations and that if we revoke their citizenship or permanent residence it will mean that the police are no longer able to summon them to come and answer to the various allegations leveled against them,” adds Gigaba.
