President Cyril Ramaphosa has received the recommendations by the National Assembly for the appointment of the eight successful candidates.

President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to announce his decision on the appointment of the eight non-executive South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Board members soon. This is according to Presidential Spokesperson Khusela Diko.

The National Assembly passed a resolution almost two weeks ago recommending the appointment of the eight candidates to fill the vacancies on the Board.

Diko has confirmed that President Ramaphosa has received the recommendations by the National Assembly for the appointment of the eight successful candidates.

Diko says the President believes that the appointment of the Board members is an urgent matter that has to be finalised as soon as possible, to restore stability at the SABC.

The eight successful recommended candidates are:

  • Mary Papayya
  • Jasmina Patel
  • Dr Marcia Socikwa
  • Adv Mamodupi Mohlala-Mulaudzi
  • Bernedette Muthien
  • Adv. Benjamin Lekalakala
  • Prof. Saths Cooper
  • David Maimela

As soon as they are appointed, this will bring the current four members non-executive inquorate Board back to become fully functional.
