President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation on Sunday night at a time yet to be announced. It is expected that the President will outline government’s strategy with regards to the coronavirus pandemic.

On Saturday, the Gauteng government said it hoped the President would address the nation before the end of the weekend, regarding the reimplementation of restrictions in the province’s most affected by the pandemic.

Gauteng is now the epicentre of the pandemic in the country, followed by the Western Cape, the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

The National Coronavirus Command Council met earlier this week to consider the Gauteng government’s request to reimpose stricter lockdown regulations.

South Africa has now registered 264-thousand-184 cases of the coronavirus, with nearly four-thousand COVID19-related deaths. 127 thousand 715 people have recovered from the infection.
