President Ramaphosa to address the nation on Monday at 20h00

President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation on Monday at 20h00 on developments in relation to the country’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The address follows meetings in recent days of the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC), the President’s Coordinating Council (PCC) and the Cabinet.

President Ramaphosa also hosted a virtual engagement on Sunday between government and interfaith leaders on the COVID-19 Risk-Adjusted Strategy which is an inclusive national effort that enables adaptive responses to the shifting pandemic.

According to a statement from the presidency, the engagement focused on the unfolding pandemic in the country and on the continent, including efforts to secure vaccines for all.

The President’s address will be carried live on SABC platforms including YouTube, TV and radio.

On 28 December, President Ramaphosa announced South Africa’s move to  Adjusted Alert Level 3. Measures including the banning of alcohol and a curfew were extended in an effort to curb the spread of the virus.
