President Ramaphosa cancels official Saudi trip to focus on govt’s intervention in KZN floods

President Cyril Ramaphosa has postponed an official visit to Saudi Arabia to focus on government’s intervention in the devasting floods in KwaZulu-Natal.

He visited some of the province’s most affected areas on Wednesday. Since then the death toll has risen to nearly 400. Rescue teams are using dogs to search for many missing people.

President Ramaphosa was due to travel this coming Tuesday but the postponement will allow him and his cabinet to asses the damage caused by the floods and address the crisis.

Earlier this week, the President and various cabinet Ministers visited the affected communities and assured them that government will assist. One billion rand in aid has been committed to the provincial government.

AmaZulu King shocked by devastation caused by the floods

AmaZulu King MisuZulu kaZwelithini has expressed shock at the extent of the damage caused by the floods.

He accompanied businessman Patrice Motsepe, together with the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal Sihle Zikalala to Tshelimnyama, west of Durban.
