President Jacob Zuma will officially open the 2017 World Economic Forum on Africa on Thursday morning.

The conference runs from 3-5 May 2017 in Durban, South Africa.

He will also hold a bilateral meeting with Professor Klause Schwarb; the founding President of the World Economic Forum.
The second day of actual talks at the World Economic Forum on Africa, will cover various topics including partnering against corruption, reducing the digital divide, Africa’s famine crisis and the electrification of the continent.

Co-Chair of WEF Africa Rich Lessor believes these engagements are valuable.

“I think that forums like this still play a very important role to highlight the practices, the ideas, and the examples that can hopefully inspire people and inspire the leaders of today,” says Lessor.

He says the forum should inspire people across both business and government communities to challenge the status quo and “ to sometimes pick up the ball themselves and push things forward”.

The three-day meeting takes place under the theme – Inclusive growth – responsive and responsible leadership.

It is attended by several heads of state including Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe. Speaking ahead of the meeting, President Zuma says they will use this platform to call for more foreign direct investment into the continent.
