Reading Time: < 1 minute

Preparations are on track ahead of the start of the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Elective Congress, taking place in Gauteng this weekend. Delegates arrived early and despite cold and wet weather, everyone was is high spirits.
A marimba group and a theatre group are entertaining the crowds.
“Seven months of planning seems to have yielded the necessary results,” says Congress Convener and Presiding Officer, Greg Krumbock.
“Organising 1 650 delegates – it’s not child’s play,” he added. Krumbock noted that to get an indication of the scale of the Congress’operations – the organisers would be serving 3 500 muffins during the course of the weekend and about 9 500 cups of tea and coffee.
The Congress is the highest decision-making body of the DA and will elect the leadership to take them into the 2014 elections. Party leader Helen Zille is standing unopposed for re-election.
Candidates for various positions were lobbying aggressively this morning ahead of tomorrow’s elections, handing out pamphlets, stickers and continuing their SMS campaigns that have been running for about six weeks.
