Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi has warned that pregnant women and children are most vulnerable to get infected with listeria.

This comes after the outbreak of the disease came under the spotlight on Tuesday with reports that it has claimed 36 lives this year and an estimated 600 people are infected in South Africa.

Motsoaledi says if a person gets infected with listeria, you must expect flu-like symptoms, headache, diarrhea, weakness and general body pains.

However, he says listeria is not a communicable disease.
