The Portfolio Committee on Communications says they are satisfied with the progress made by the SABC Board on the implementation of the recommendations in the “When Governance and Ethics Fail” report.

The report by the Public Protector relates to the SABC Board Inquiry.

The current SABC Board rescinded the decision of the previous Board to take the Public Protector report on a judicial review.

It implemented the recommendations, including resuscitating disciplinary hearing against former COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng, who was subsequently dismissed for misconduct.

Chairperson of the portfolio committee Humphrey Maxegwana says: “In our view as a committee, in a way they have done 99% and we take our hats off. I think the interim board and the current board did a lot to address the problems of staff in the SABC and addressing the collapse of leadership. We think by the end of next year, a number of issues would have been dealt with.”
