Deputy President Paul Mashatile has conceded that government has not addressed the issue of poverty in the country.
He was speaking at the Masjidul-Quds Institute where he witnessed the breaking of the fast in Ramadan at the Gatesville Mosque in Cape Town on Saturday night.
Mashatile says government needs support to alleviate poverty.
“We must ensure that we deal with the issue of poor government and poor government support for many in our communities particularly small businesses that are really struggling. As we speak, there is a challenge of housing in many of our areas. We can see the persistent problem of backyard dwellings in many of our communities.”
