The public were allowed a rare visit to the Port as part of its annual festival that allows people to experience being on some of the world's best sea vessels.

As heritage month draws to a close, the Port of Durban was opened to the public through a series of activities under the theme, All things Heritage – embracing Durban’s diverse cultures.

The public were allowed a rare visit to the Port as part of its annual festival that allows people to experience being on some of the world’s best sea vessels.

Festival goers were thrilled by the port.

“It’s my first time here and all I can say is wow is so nice to be here and I’m certain my family as had an experience of a lifetime.”

“As a young person this experience has inspired me a lot, now I see myself being part of the SA navy one day,” adds another festival goer.

“I had a nice time with my friends, we enjoyed ourselves and got to learn about the ship and its guns,” says a fetsival goer.

In its third year, the festival also seeks to promote cultural diversity.

Acting Durban port manager Nokuzola Nkowane says the festival is about the port to the people.

“It’s about bringing different communities together to the port, opening it up to the public so that those who have never been to the port can share the experience with us.”

The festival once got the public excited about the oceans economy.
