Popcru concerned over unfilled commissioner post in KZN

The Police and Prison Civil Right Union (Popcru) has raised concerns that KwaZulu-Natal has not had a permanent police commissioner for almost two years.

Lieutenant- General Mmamonye Ngobeni was suspended in May 2016 following allegations of misconduct.

She allegedly unlawfully benefited from a Durban businessman and defeated the ends of justice by blocking the investigation against him.

Popcru national spokesperson Richard Mamabolo says, “We have always very clear that acting positions within the SAPS have actually been a problem, because they have obviously taking the SAPS back. In that situation, there are no actions that can be taken when a person is acting but we think that all positions should definitely be filled.”

“So it’s something we worried about. It’s actually delaying service delivery because you would know that even at a national level, that when anybody comes in a position they come with their own objectives and strategies,” adds Mamabolo.
