‘Politicians should keep their promises – not make empty promises’

Residents of Enkovukeni in northern KwaZulu-Natal, near the Mozambican border, say democracy is only an ideal on paper. Surrounded by four lakes and the Indian Ocean, they don’t have roads, electricity or clinics. The estimated 300 community members have to brave a hippo and crocodile-infested lake just to get to the nearest town, Manguzi, for school and work. James Ngubani is one of them.
