Political parties have welcomed President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to withdraw the Presidency’ appeal on the Pretoria High Court’s ruling which ordered Shaun Abrahams to vacate NPA offices.

The political opposition called on the President to move quickly in addressing the matter.

Abrahams is still appealing the matter at the Constitutional Court – with the case set for Wednesday next week.

The appointment of Shaun Abrahams as NPA boss in 2015 has always been shrouded in controversy.

Abrahams succeeded Mxolisi Nxasana.

But now his future at the NPA continues to hang in the balance.

On Friday night, President Ramaphosa announced that he was withdrawing an appeal filed by his predecessor Jacob Zuma.

In December, Zuma filed an appeal against a court decision that Abrahams should vacate his position.

This after a court ruling invalidating Abrahams’ appointment to the job at the NPA.

The court said the then President had been conflicted to make top appointments at the NPA, following the Nxasana golden handshake scandal.

And now speculation is rife as to who will take over at the NPA once Abrahams is out.

The December court ruling ordered the then deputy president  of the republic to appoint the new head of the NPA.

As the outcome of the case looms large and its expected on Wednesday – some say this matter should come be put to rest sooner than later.

It remains to be seen – who will be next in line, to take over the top job at NPA once all the legal wrangling has been resolved.
