Police to investigate Witbank collision

Police are investigating the cause of a collision near Emalahleni in Mpumalanga that killed four people and left another five injured early Saturday morning.

Two vehicles collided on the R555 between Ogies and the city also called Witbank. The injured were transported to hospital.

ER24 Spokesperson Ineke van Huyssteen says, “Upon further assessment, three people were found to have sustained fatal injuries. They were declared dead on the scene by paramedics. Three others were found to have sustained serious injuries, and another two sustained minor to moderate injuries.”

“ER24 transported a woman who was in a critical condition to hospital. Unfortunately, shortly afterwards the woman succumbed to her injuries in the hospital and was declared dead,” added Huyssteen.

Meanwhile, 27 people sustained injuries after the bakkie they were travelling in rolled in Strijdom Park, Johannesburg on Saturday morning.

Two of the passengers sustained serious injuries and have s been hospitalised. The cause of the crash is still being investigated.

ER24 Spokesperson, Ineke van Huyssteen says “When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene, they found some of the patients lying and sitting next to the highway. The driver was still seated in the bakkie. ER24, as well as multiple other medical services on scene, transported the patients to hospital for further medical care.”
