Manana has denied claims that he assaulted Wiro at his Fourways home.

Police are investigating a perjury accusation by ANC MP Mduduzi Manana against his former domestic worker, Christine Wiro, among related cases.

Manana has denied claims that he assaulted Wiro at his Fourways home, north of Johannesburg, after letting a guest into the house without his permission.

He has also denied allegations that he offered her R100 000 to withdraw the complaint. Instead he says it was Wiro’s family who tried to extort money out of him.

Wiro laid an assault case, which she later withdrew, but the NPA is going ahead with it.

An audio recording has since emerged believed to be Manana offering Wiro R100 000 in exchange for dropping the assault case.

Gauteng police spokesperson Mathapelo Peters says, “Amongst the cases, the police will be investigating in relation to this case is a case of perjury that was opened at Douglasdale on Monday and the case will be investigated by the provincial investigating unit.”
