About 29 school boys have been rescued from the Johannesburg soccer academy.

Soweto police have arrested a 34-year-old suspect in connection with the rape of a 9-year-old boy. It’s alleged that the boy was part of a soccer club where the alleged abuse took place.

News reports on Friday morning also indicate that about 29 school boys have been rescued from a Johannesburg soccer academy in Protea Glen in Soweto where they’ve been repeatedly raped and beaten for months by their coach.

The report says the boys aged between 9 and 18-years-old had been molested and abused by the 34-year-old man.

Police spokesperson Mzwakhe Xazi has not ruled out the possibility that the cases could be related.

“The investigation currently is continuing because we are investigating the matter to see whether there are other victims that may be involved,” says Xazi.
