Police in Western Cape have opened an inquest docket following the death of a hiker who fell down a cliff on Table Mountain earlier this week.

The deceased was one of four foreign nationals who were hiking in a group when he slipped and fell to his death. Provincial police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says the deceased was 57 years old.

He says the body was recovered by volunteers from Wilderness Search and Rescue.
