Police are on high alert in Ntuzuma, north of Durban where protests have erupted over service delivery.

Residents claim they have been without water since last Friday and that the municipality has failed to provide water tankers to affected areas.

A bus was set alight on Thursday morning and residents of H and G Section have blockaded roads with burning tyres and debris.

Police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says a case of public violence has been opened.

“Since last night, the community members from Ntuzuma blockaded the Ithendele Drive with burning tyres and rubble and again this morning, a bus and a vehicle were set alight by the protestors. No injuries were reported. The public order police as well as the local police are at the scene to stabilise the situation and a case of public violence has been opened for investigation at Ntuzuma police station.”
