Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembinkosi Jula says police officers implicated in the theft of firearms at two police stations in Bellville and Mitchell’s Plain on the Cape Flats will appear before a disciplinary hearing on Thursday.

A total of 33 firearms were stolen at these police stations in the recent past. Briefing the National Assembly’s Portfolio Committee on Police, Jula said the police officers involved were all suspended pending the outcome of an investigation.

He says the officers include, among others and station commanders.

“When it comes to Michel’s Plain where we 14 members suspended-a station commander was suspended, a protocol commander was also suspended at this station. And also there were twelve other members most of which were working from the shift and other members who had something to do with the fire-arms when they were booked in and out.so those twelve other members were also suspended and they will be appearing tomorrow and Friday before a disciplinary tribunal,” says Jula.
