The Hawks have arrested a 34-year-old police constable stationed at the Bellville South Community Service Centre, outside Cape Town, for corruption.

The constable was allegedly involved in the disappearance of 18 firearms from the Bellville South police station in August 2017.

Hawks spokesperson, Hangwani Mulaudzi, says only two of these weapons have so far been found. Mulaudzi says the constable will appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s court on Wednesday.

“He was on our radar for quite some time. With the gang related problems in the Western Cape, this is a matter that is receiving serious attention. Hopefully, with his arrest, we will be able to uncover more of those who were involved in the steeling of those firearms. There are other people that we are looking at but of course when we do out investigations, we arrest for conviction. So we don’t want a situation where we leave any other issues hanging.”
