Twelve people have been arrested during violent protests in Qwaqwa in the eastern Free State were residents went on a rampage, vandalising and looting shops belonging to locals and foreign nationals.
Residents are protesting over incessant electricity cuts and poor service delivery after municipal workers downed tools over non-payment of their January salaries.
The situation remains tense as several roads are still barricaded with heavy objects and rocks.
Police are still monitoring the situation.
