Former North West provincial Deputy Police Commissioner General William Mpembe and eight senior police officials will on Monday appear at the North West High Court sitting in Mogwase, for a pre-trial.
This is in relation to the killing of striking mine-workers in 2012, in Marikana.
Mpembe and the officers, including Colonel Salmon Vermaak, are facing four counts of murder, six attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice and contravening the police watch-dog, IPID act.
Mpembe will appear alongside Constable Nkosana Mguye, Warrant Officer Masilo Mogale, Warrant Officers Katlego Sekgweleya, and Khazamola Makhubela, including Colonel Salmon Vermaak and three others.
They were arrested for an incident that happened in Marikana on August 13 in 2012 which led to the death of two police officers, Tsietsi Monene and Warrant Officer Sello Lepaku as well as three more striking mine-workers.
It is alleged Mpembe who was a commander at the time, interceded a group of striking mine-workers and ordered police to fire teargas and stun grenades into the group were confrontations ensued.
Mpembe and three more officers are facing defeating the ends of justice, after failing to disclose one of the arrested striking mine-worker at the scene,who died on the back of police van while being transported to cells.
The accused are currently out on bail.
