Police launch manhunt following Mpumalanga MEC Speedy Mashilo’s hijacking

Police in Mpumalanga have launched a manhunt for the suspects who hijacked African National Congress (ANC) regional chairperson and Human and Settlements MEC Speedy Mashilo.

He was driving a bakkie on the R568 between Ekangala and KwaMhlanga when he was hijacked.

Masilo was forced to stop at gunpoint and was put in a car which drove off with him.

Police spokesperson Selvy Mohlala says the suspects dropped the MEC in a secluded area towards Olifantsfontein.

He says, “He walked into a nearby road where he was assisted by a patrolling security vehicle, The suspects robbed him of his Toyota Hilux, bank cards, brown envelope which contained R25 000 inside, groceries, wallet and licensed hunting rifle with 25 rounds of ammunition.”
