Police have launched a manhunt following a fatal shooting in Soshanguve north of Pretoria on Monday.

The shooting took place near the Soshanguve Crossing Shopping Center.

It’s understood a man was driving alone in his grey Mercedes Benz on the Ruth First Road when he was shot at.

The victim lost control of his car before it crashed onto a vegetable stall next to the road.

Family members who are on the scene cried uncontrollably as police and forensic experts were removing the victim’s lifeless body from his vehicle.

Eyewitnesses say they heard loud gunshot noise around midday.

One man who didn’t want to be named, says he saw two men carrying rifles shooting at the victim’s vehicle before jumping into their getaway black Mercedes Benz.

The suspects sped off immediately after the shooting.

A bullet-riddled car is still parked at the crime scene as it waits to be towed.

The road has been closed off as forensic experts continue to comb the scene while onlookers are taking pictures and videos.

A police helicopter continues hovering over the crime scene.

Police have urged members of the public to come forward if they have any information regarding the shooting incident.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo says, “Police are appealing to anyone who might have information that can help in the investigation or assist apprehend the suspects to please call the nearest police station or call crime stop on 08600 10111.”

This is the sixth fatal shooting incident to take place in Soshanguve and Mabopane in just one month.

Earlier in January, two men were shot and killed by unknown men while traveling from Mabopane to Soshanguve.

A week before, one man was shot and killed in Mabopane by suspects who were driving a black Audi.
