Police have launched an investigation into the deaths of a man and his 6-month-old daughter on a plot in Randfontein, in Gauteng’s Westrand. They were found dead inside a room after the man’s girlfriend called for help.

The man’s brother told police that when he arrived at the couple’s room, he found it locked and smoke coming out of the property. He forced open the door and saw the man’s girlfriend inside the smoke-filled room who then pointed out the deceased’s body lying on the floor.

The couple’s 6-month-old baby was lying on the bed. He noticed that the smoke was coming from the couple’s TV set and decoder.

Paramedics arrived and declared the man and the baby dead. The mother was rushed to the hospital.

Police have opened an inquest docket.
