Police investigate double family murder in Northern Cape

A 34-year-old man from Barkly West in the Northern Cape has been arrested for the alleged double murder of his relatives. It is alleged that the suspect fatally stabbed a 66-year-old and his 52-year-old female partner on Friday evening.

The suspect then allegedly went to another relative and stabbed a 45-year-old police officer. He is currently fighting for his life in hospital.

“Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect stabbed two of his family members in their home and they died on the scene and fled. He then went to the home of a third family member, a 45-year-old police officer. He broke a window gained entrance to the house and found the victim sleeping, and stabbed him multiple times. The police official managed to escape and found refuge at his neighbour’s house. The suspect also damaged three vehicles and one of the officials during the incident. The 34-year-old male was arrested and is expected to appear in the Barkley West Magistrate court soon,”

The Northern Cape police spokesperson Timothy Sam elaborates.
