Police, Intelligence set for 2017 WEF on Africa

The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure has put security measures in place to ensure the success of the World Economic Forum Africa that starts in Durban on Wednesday.

The structure comprises various safety departments – including the Police.

Over one-thousand delegates including heads of state and ministers from various countries across Africa, will attend the three-day gathering.

KwaZulu-Natal police have warned motorists of road closures in and around the city, especially in the vicinity of the International Convention Centre.

We’re calling upon communities to engage in these demonstrations and protests action in a responsible  and peaceful manner

National police spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo says the police and the Intelligence Structure have put security measures in place to ensure the success of the WEF on Africa.

“The structure comprises various safety departments – including the Police. Over one-thousand delegates including heads of state and ministers from various countries across Africa, will attend the three-day gathering. KwaZulu-Natal police have warned motorists of road closures in and around the city, especially in the vicinity of of the International Convention Centre,” says Naidoo.

“There’s a wealth of experience as far as this structure is concerned and we’re confident that with the continuous support of communities we will deliver this event successfully,” he says.

Naidoo says they are aware of protest action expected to take place at the event.

“We’re calling upon communities to engage in these demonstrations and protests action in a responsible and peaceful manner and within the confines of the law. No form of criminality will be tolerated,” he says.

He says the police will make sure those transgressing will face the full blunt of the law.
